Try This
Aug 2nd, 2007 | By Mable | Category: Self ConditionI used to say that I would try anything once. And I did. Lots of things, most of them dreamed up by a drug induced stupor. I drifted through a bad marriage and almost lost my mind piddling in the occult. I left the big city and returned to the small country town where I had grown up. My best friend for many years was a Christian. She had been praying for me and she had the boldness to tell me I needed Jesus. Defeated and empty from a life of rebellion, I decided that I had tried everything else and now I would try Jesus.
I was asked, “Do you believe that Jesus is the son of God and that God has raised him from the dead?” And I said, “Yes, I do.” I said yes to Jesus. My apostolic grandmother had gotten enough of the Bible into me that I knew when I made that decision angels in heaven were singing. I knew something had changed but I didn’t feel it. But oh, how that one decision to speak those words altered the course of my history! I continued to make other decisions, less significant but just as life changing: not to toke that joint, to go to church, not to associate with that person, to go to work each day, to read my Bible, to study God’s Word, and how my life is changed! I don’t recognize the person I used to be. And my life has never been the same, thank God!

I too was saved later in life. I was baptized 3 times before I was saved because I was doing what I thought was expected of me. I didn’t mean it on the inside. That’s how I know that just bapism alone will not save a person. Romans 10: 8-11 says: ” This message is near. It’s in your mouth and your heart.” This is the message of faith that we spread. If you declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God brought him back to life, you will be saved. By believing you receive God’s approval, and by declaring your faith, you are saved. Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be ashamed.” This scripture is taken from God’s Word to the Nation’s Bible Society.
