Dec 13th, 2007 | By butterfly | Category: Just Weird, Self ConditionAbout 25 years ago I accepted Jesus Christ of the Bible as my “savior”. I had heard about the baptism in the Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost most of my life, but didn’t really know what it meant. Our church did not teach about this.
Anyway, I was driving home from my job one day and was praying for the people in the cars that I was meeting. Suddenly, I was no longer seeing the highway. I was not frightened and saw a green chalkboard in front of my eyes. From the right side of the board, syllables of unknown words were traveling from the right to the left, like a digital/light advertisement that you see at night.
I realized that this was a language other than English. I started pronouncing the syllables and realized that I was talking in an “unknown tongue”. I just started chuckling to myself because about 2 weeks before that I had told the Lord that I wanted more of Him, and if He wanted me to have the baptism in the Holy Spirit I would be willing. It was not an eerie or overly emotional experience, just very satisfying. I knew that the Bible said that if you asked for a piece of bread you would not get a stone, or for a fish you would not get a serpent. So I knew this was really a blessing from the Lord, especially since I had no background in “tongues”. And didn’t make very good grades in French class…Ha!
I went to a website the other day after hearing an ad on tv. It is www.garysimons.org. He is the pastor for High Point church in Arlington, Tx. He had a free teaching series about this topic called “The Holy Spirit: The Fountain and the Flood”. So, I ordered it and have to say it is the most insightful teaching about God’s Holy Spirit that I have ever heard or read. It is backed up by scriptures that you can research yourself and you can print out a transcript of this set of 9 lessons if you go to the website. I don’t know if they are still offering the teaching cds for free or not.
Another weird thing about this experience in my car is that at that time I was not a teacher. I became a teacher 4 years after that…so that green chalkboard has some significance to me also.
