My husband and I went camping at the Fish Creek Campground on the Upper Clackamas River sometime around the year 1993 or 94. We got to our campsite late, around midnight. My husband had the camping spot well lit, and we set up our tent and camping stuff.

I was sitting on one of our lawn chairs when I heard an animal coming up the pathway very close to me. I turned to look at it, and what I saw was unbelievable. I saw what looked like a giant spider-crab looking thing. It had legs like a spider and a body like a crab. It headed straight for me as soon as it saw me, and I screamed, jumped up in the air, and started running the opposite way.

This thing that was as big as a small animal jumped straight up in the air and over my head. Then it came down in front of me and stood there balancing its body in the middle of its six to eight legs, as if to be waiting for me to make a move, and I did. I turned and ran the other way, and it came after me. My husband grabbed the cast iron frying pan and hit it hard, trying to stop it from chasing us. It laid with its legs curled up like a spider does when it’s dead for a couple of seconds and then it flipped right side up again and came towards me. My husband hit it hard and flung it into the bushes. We did not know where it was, but when we looked for it the next morning, it was gone. We looked everywhere to see what it was. It’s hard to explain this story to anyone because we really did not know what it was, but it was after me and I thank God for my husband being there to stop it!
